  8.        1.  _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n

  10.        RoboInst is a software distribution product designed to help
  11.        automate the process of installing operating system
  12.        upgrades, operating system and application patches, and
  13.        applications (both SGI format and third party) for a
  14.        distributed network of SGI systems.  In addition, RoboInst
  15.        can be used to perform disk configuration prior to
  16.        installation.  It is currently supported for IRIX 6.2 and
  17.        later but will accomodate upgrades of systems from IRIX 5.3
  18.        to later releases.  RoboInst performs in-place upgrades of
  19.        software without manual de-installation of previous
  20.        versions, manages software compatibility issues and has an
  21.        easy API for developers to use.

  23.        Note:  RoboInst can be used to install IRIX 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4
  24.               systems provided the appropriate XFS patches are
  25.               installed on the client systems.  Refer to Chapter 3
  26.               of these release notes for more information.

  88.        (the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s subsystem), you can view the release notes on
  89.        your screen.

  91.        Note:  You can read the online release notes for most
  92.               products before installing the software.  Refer to
  93.               the booklet in your CD-ROM case for more information.

  95.        If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from
  96.        the Help submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the
  97.        _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h(1) graphical browser for the online release
  98.        notes.

  100.        Refer to the _i_n_f_o_s_e_a_r_c_h(1) man page for information on
  101.        options to this command.
